I painted this scene from Zion Park well over twenty years ago. I don't know if this park enterprise (horseback riding) still exists, and I'm sure all of the animals shown have gone to the happy grazing grounds. I was waiting for someone at the time, and as I observed this particular horse I felt I could almost read it's thoughts. I kept hearing things in my mind like, "Dumb tourist, never seen a horse before," and "Don't you have anything better to do?" I swear he/she was communicating with me through some sixth-sense medium.
