MY FRIEND'S GALLERY. The trip to Eureka, Nevada was well worth the time. Wally is an avid art collector and has over 1000 original pieces of art in his private collection. I spent more than two hours there talking and drooling. Thanks for the tour, Wally. I can't neglect to mention that Wally bought another painting from me. He presently has about six of mine in his collection!

I had an interesting week in Ely, Nevada, but the highlight was an afternoon trip I made to Eureka, Nevada 77 miles west of Ely. A longtime friend lives in Eureka, and for several years he's been asking me to visit his art gallery. So, I decided now was the time. Eureka is an old mining town nestled in the mountains at 6400  feet elevation. The trip there took about a total of five hours and the scenery was beautiful. I should have stopped and taken more photos, but as is often the case I was presed for time. This is a photo of Hamilton Peak.

The peak in this scene is not Mt Nebo but another unidentified one to the north. Great place for scenery.  (15" x 22)

BAKER CREEK SHADOWS II

The second version. Palette: Winsor Red, Winsor Lemon, Cobalt Blue, French Ultramarine Blue, Sap Green, Aureolin, Antwerp Blue, and Cadmium Scarlet. Paper" Arches white. After soaking the paper and allowing it to dry, I masked the trees, branches, sunlit areas, and some of the leaves and then poured onto the rewetted paper Winsor Red, Cobalt Blue, and Winsor Lemon. After that mix had dried I then modeled the foliage with Sap Green, French Ultramarine, and Antwerp Blue. I used Antwerp Blue and Cadmium Scarlet to form the tree trunk shadows. BAKER CREEK SHADOWS

I completed this painting almost a year ago. As an experiment I tried a different palette, but I'm not sure I'm happy with the results. I doubt I'll ever use this particular color combination again, nevertheless it's intersting to try something different.  Today, I painted this same scene using yet another palette, again in an experimental sort of way. I have to admit I felt somewhat stressed while working out of my normal palette comfort zone. I'll post the second painting tomorow with a listing of the palette colors.  (22" x 15")

MORNING LIGHT MT NEBO

It's taken me a couple of years to build up to this painting. Each time I'd look at the reference photo I'd think about someday tackling it. I finally did it.  (Also, the yellows in the original are much cooler than in this photo.   15" x 22")

URSINE PARTY TIME

Ursine is a tiny village in eastern Lincoln county. According to what I've been told, this old barn was once the town's community center and was used for dances and other local functions. I liked its looks and decided it would make a painting.  (15" x 22")
