Kittinger jumping from his balloon's gondola at an altitude of 102,000 feet. (20 miles) He free-fell for 4 1/2 minutes before his chute automatically opened for a total fall time of 13 minutes. During the jump his left-hand glove malfunctioned and his hand swelled to twice its normal size. The jump took place in 1960. One brave dude! (Don't ask, Angela.
